ampersand international arts is a contemporary arts space that opened in San Francisco in 1999. Its core purpose is to provide exhibiting opportunities to passionate, innovative and talented artists. ampersand is dedicated to championing, promoting, and nurturing these emerging and mid-career artists and creating a critical dialogue around their work.

ampersand maintains a constant effort to show artists in additional alternative or mainstream arts organizations, and is not involved with the exclusive commercial representation of any artist. In addition, ampersand provides consulting services to assist specific needs of contemporary art collectors.

ampersand is committed to promoting intercultural knowledge and dialogue. We aim to be a catalyst between the Bay Area art community and other arts communities around the world by facilitating collaboration between artists, curators, & arts enthusiasts, cultivating an understanding of diverse aesthetic and cultural perspectives. Our sister space, ampersand : paris, opened in 2002 in Paris, France.

Director : Bruno Mauro

Associate Curator : Lori Gordon
Gordon investigates the structure and power of belief, creating projects that attempt to decipher both humanity's and her own connection with the universe. Through collaborative endeavors, she explores the distance between coincidence and intention, with an emphasis on setting up moments that deviate from the expected. In some cases, she is more interested in providing the organized framework around which potential interactions may occur. With all her work, she is more interested in the journey than the destination. She is forever attempting to make the ineffable visible.

Associate Curator : Tracy Wheeler
Tracy Wheeler is an emerging curator, secret artist, keen art collector and a
creative writer. Ms Wheeler attended Douglass College, Rutgers University where she acquired a BA in Political Science.  As the president of the Board of Directors of Southern Exposure from 2004 to 2010, Ms Wheeler was instrumental in stewarding the organization toward its present gallery space. Tracy Wheeler is now dedicating herself to writing and curation work and living artfully.
