Statement
My paintings are not actual places, but deeply meaningful places that express at their very foundation the immense strength and beauty found in relational existence. They begin with actual experiences which are absorbed and stored in my memory via quick or detailed sketches, writings, or both. The visual vocabulary of these mixed-media paintings then emerge as a synthesis of line and natural forms, filtered and transformed through my memory, bringing experience and knowledge together to sort out essential events. These events become "snapshots" of impressions altered by innate aesthetic responses, reconstructing the intent of the moment visually. The structure of this process has created works, that at times, seem to side-step objective realities and to have internal origins. This interaction of form and medium, although not spoken in words, is stimulated by internal dialogue and tranquil moments. At times, I wonder if the visual synthesis of my paintings is the result of a compilation of stored experiences, or a gift that emerges as a result of the process.”
